Our Story

We are a Métis owned and operated farm located just South of Winnipeg by La Barriere Park at
4310 Waverley Street, La Barriere, Manitoba.

Charlie May Farm was named after one of our children as our kids are often a big reason to want to build a life that values being closer to nature and connecting to it in a way that living on an acreage amongst the wild plants and animals can provide.

Having a connection to and understanding the ecosystem around us can be healing in more ways than one can imagine.

Many years ago, as a young couple, we were caught up in our careers in the city and working high stress jobs only to find with each passing year that we needed an outlet to heal and slow down.

As our family grew so did the need to connect with the land and build a life that was meaningful to us.  The memories we created with each animal or garden we had on the farm was so fulfilling and wholesome to the family unit.  It gave our kids and ourselves a purpose in life and a respect for nature that will never be replaced.

My greatest memories of family life revolve around the farm animals we cared for or time we spent together growing food for ourselves and our extended family and friends.

By taking a step back and watching how nature responds, and is connected, we have been able to overcome most growing challenges on the farm.

As time went on we learned the importance of having healthy soil to grow strong and healthy plants and also the use of flowers as allies to the gardens.

I began to slowly incorporate flowers into the garden for cutting and enjoying indoors.

I had to be sneaky as my husband wasn’t too fond of giving valuable veggie garden space to silly flowers, but with each flower planted we began to realize that these flowers became major work horses for the garden.

Not only are they beautiful, but they attract pollinators and beneficial insects to create a healthy garden and ward of certain pests.

With each year, nature teaches us a thing or two and helps us to grow a healthy successful garden.  We are so excited to now extend  the fruits of nature to the community by providing direct farm to table products grown right here on our little farm.

As a growing herbalist, veggie and flower farmer we hope to grow and expand to be able to provide local flowers and herbs and also educate the public on ways to grow, harvest, preserve and enjoy flowers.

With all of nature's inspiration  the warm months provides us, I am able to make some time in the winter to nestle into my home and get a little creative with handmade products inspired by nature and our farm life.

With every effort to use what is locally available and sustainable, we hope to create some products for your home and life knowing that it was made with that in mind.
